Benefits of Reflexology When Studying for Exams

Can reflexology be beneficial before taking English language exams, or any exam for that matter? Anita from Happy Feet Reflexology describes her English language journey and the benefits that reflexology can bring to people studying for exams.

Firstly, what is reflexology?

Reflexology is an ancient, nonintrusive, complimentary healing technique that uses rhythmic pressure to stimulate the nerve endings of your feet, hands, ears or face.

Etymology of reflexology

Reflexology is known as a useful technique to reduce stress. A definition of stress is:

‘a state of mental and/or emotional strain resulting from demanding circumstances’

However, this psychological meaning to stress was only first cited in 1955. In the 1300s, stress referred to the ‘physical strain on a material object’ e.g. the stress on the ropes of a boat.

The example of the tension of a rope is a great analogy for what happens to the muscles in the body while students spend hours sitting in a chair, at a desk, while studying. It can also serve as a metaphorical image of the stress the brain can be under too. Discover some of the benefits reflexology with Anita can bring to people who are in this position.

  • Relax when you’re most stressed – this is much easier done than you would believe. A few 1-minute breathing exercises, a cup of chamomile tea, a quick walk around the block.
  • Get regular reflexology treatments – reflexology is known to release stress, improve concentration, energy and blood flow at the same time as calming the nerves (Benefits of Reflexology When Studying for Exams)

  • Massage the areas indicated in the chart below to release stress, anxiety and  improve concentration, memory and focus.
  • Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate some more! Keeping your body (especially your brain) hydrated is imperative! Lemon water is particularly helpful.
  • If you’re typing for longer periods, insert a pause every 60-90 minutes to stretch your hands – it will also give your brain a much needed break to reset and reboot.

Anita’s Reflexology and Language Studying Journey

I learned German first and English next, both of them being completely different to my mother tongue, which is Hungarian’.

I’ve spent plenty of time trying to learn words that made no sense to me. Practicing pronunciation – not that you would believe it if you heard me – and stressing about exams, presentations, and the likes.

When I enrolled in an accredited reflexology course I often had the feeling that I’m learning a fourth language with all the technical terms and expressions.

Luckily by the time the exams came around I knew how much reflexology can help me, not only with stressful situations but also improving my cognitive functions, such as memory, concentration and focus, so I sailed through the exams and qualified with distinction.

I would have been over the moon had someone recommended reflexology to me earlier in life when I was studying. Instead of staying up all night and facing panic attacks before exams, I would have been able to study more efficiently and sleep much better.

All the happier I am that now I can share the Benefits of Reflexology When Studying for Exams.
